Our History

NORTH UXBRIDGE FIRE MUSEUM

1904: THE EARLY YEARS

The original North Uxbridge Fire Station was built in 1904, marking a new era of fire protection and service for the town. In the early days, the station housed two hose reels and a horse-drawn hand pumper – visible in the historic photo – and featured a wide central bay door to accommodate the equipment. Designed for functionality and readiness, the building quickly became a cornerstone of the community’s emergency response efforts and stands today as a proud symbol of the town’s firefighting heritage.

A GROWING COMMUNITY

1910’S: TURNING POINT

As North Uxbridge grew in the early 20th century, the fire station quickly became a fixture of town life and public safety. This photo, taken shortly after the station’s completion, captures a defining moment in local history – a dedicated team of early firefighters standing before the very structure that would support generations of emergency response. The building was not just a headquarters for fire protection, but a gathering point for service, training, and community leadership. These men helped lay the foundation for what would become a lasting tradition of volunteerism and pride in North Uxbridge.

BRINGING THE STATION BACK TO LIFE

2025: HISTORY RESTORED

In recent years, the North Uxbridge Fire Station has been fully restored to honor its original structure and purpose. With careful attention to detail, the restoration team used authentic materials – including original-style wood planks, period-appropriate kitchen equipment, and upgraded electrical systems that meet today’s safety codes. The result is a space that not only reflects the craftsmanship of the early 1900s, but also stands ready to preserve and protect the stories within its walls for future generations.
